The goal of our X-Series Irons has always been lofty: Set the performance standard for the industry. We've done it again with Callaway X-22 Iron Set, the best X-Series Irons we've ever made. The perimeter weighting of the X-22s has been maximized for a moment of inertia (MOI) that's 10 percent higher than their predecessors, meaning you get more forgiveness on off-center strikes. The ideal center of gravity position has been preserved, generating optimal ball-flight trajectories. We've also incorporated the Modified Tru-Bore design, dampening vibration for enhanced feel. The tour-inspired head shape has a slightly thinner topline and sole with a large sweet spot for improved aesthetics and forgiveness to boost your confidence.
A high moment of inertia (MOI) simply means that it resists twisting on off-center hits so that your bad shots are less likely to head off into the woods. These are called "game-improvement" irons, which means that they're generally designed for higher handicap players. Game-improvement is the polite way of marketing to players who desperately need their games to improve, so they're not slowing down play at the course by always having to hunt for their ball in the high weeds. That being said, The X-22s have also performed well for lower handicap players.
One reviewer who has a 3 handicap said that he's always favored TaylorMade irons, but after trying the X-22s, he found them to provide a workable, consistent, ball flight and solid feel.
One limitation of the X-22s is that the only steel shaft available is the stock uniflex shaft. Uniflex simply means that the shaft was designed to fit the widest range of golfers possible.

I purchased these to have something more forgiving since I was playing Ping I3 blades. Since I don't play as often I decided to buy something that would dampen mishit. I have a personal driving range and I found that my swing fault followed me, go figure :) Anyway, my 1st round was a disaster, but it wasn't the clubs. After the disaster I practiced all week with them, along with a major revision in my setup and shot 73 in my second round with them. So, they were redeemed. One thing I've noticed is that the offset is hidden well in the design of the club. I have never cared for offset, but it's almost invisible in this club. They feel really good in my hands and the thicker sole from the Ping's now seem normal.
