That's what this Callaway FT-iZ Driver club looks like at address. But before you start chuckling to yourself too loudly, and walk away with that "Big Deal--So Callaway made another expensive composite driver" type of attitude, you need to at least hear me out on this one. There's a lot that they did right this time. Let's face it--Callaway and Cobra are the only two makers left who are fighting for dominance of The Composite Driver Market. Even the much revered Ping Rapture has become a multi-metal, and no longer a multi-material driver. As the battle goes back and forth between the two remaining titans, neither one of them has spared any R&D money, or any off the wall drawing board protoype in an effort to corner the market in a market niche that once had every maker vying for a piece of the action. This year I tip my hat slightly to Callaway on this one. As weird as this driver is, it's got a lot going for it.

Beyond Long
In their never-ending mission to find more distance and accuracy for golfers, Callaway's engineers used an entirely new design to once again produce a driver that's longer and straighter than anything they've ever made.
Polar Weighting
Utilizes a heavy face and a heavy in-line power source in the rear, localizing weight at the front and back of the driver to provide stability, consistency, incredible feel and increased linear acceleration of the ball.
Chemically Milled Hyperbolic Face
Generates Callaway's most consistently high ball speeds ever by using a chemical reduction process to selectively remove unwanted material for precision thickness control.
Aerodynamic Body Design
The progressive shape reduces drag in the downswing for higher impact speeds and produces Callaway's most efficient high inertia clubhead ever.
Fusion Technology
Exploits extreme weight placement by utilizing cast titanium, compression cured carbon fiber, formed aluminum and cast steel for the optimal combination of performance, feel and looks.

I purchased these to have something more forgiving since I was playing Ping I3 blades. Since I don't play as often I decided to buy something that would dampen mishit. I have a personal driving range and I found that my swing fault followed me, go figure :) Anyway, my 1st round was a disaster, but it wasn't the clubs. After the disaster I practiced all week with them, along with a major revision in my setup and shot 73 in my second round with them. So, they were redeemed. One thing I've noticed is that the offset is hidden well in the design of the club. I have never cared for offset, but it's almost invisible in this club. They feel really good in my hands and the thicker sole from the Ping's now seem normal.
