Ping Rapture V2 driver

The Ping Rapture V2 Driver is the updated version of the original and very successful Ping Rapture Driver, and is a club designed to offer the golfer an excellent blend of distance along with great control and workability. Most players at first glance will notice that they are attractive looking golf clubs, with a classic head design and some nice graphics.

The Ping Rapture V2 Driver represents the culmination of Ping's development of multi-metal technology that combines the key properties of the materials to maximise the performance of the club. The Rapture V2's 460 cc head combines a titanium body with external tungsten weight pads that are located at the back of the club, near the heel and toe. The weight pads position the centre of gravity to allow the Ping Rapture V2 to deliver a lower spin and high launch angle together with a higher MOI that improves both distance and accuracy. The head is plasma-welded and it's taller face has been machined to variable thicknesses to promote increased ball speed and is styled with an aggressively tapered crown featuring the Double-Rapture alignment aid.

These golf clubs can provide a pleasing sound off the tee. Not a "tink" or hollow sound, but more of a solid quality sound. I found the V2 trajectory to be a little quicker-launching through the "ideal window" about 10-20 yards off the tee. Once airborne, the V2 trajectory seemed to flatten out quicker than the G10. I attribute this to the lower spin that Ping has engineered into the Ping Rapture V2 Driver. The net result is a bit more roll once the ball hit the ground. And we can all use some more roll.

I purchased these to have something more forgiving since I was playing Ping I3 blades. Since I don't play as often I decided to buy something that would dampen mishit. I have a personal driving range and I found that my swing fault followed me, go figure :) Anyway, my 1st round was a disaster, but it wasn't the clubs. After the disaster I practiced all week with them, along with a major revision in my setup and shot 73 in my second round with them. So, they were redeemed. One thing I've noticed is that the offset is hidden well in the design of the club. I have never cared for offset, but it's almost invisible in this club. They feel really good in my hands and the thicker sole from the Ping's now seem normal.
