R9 Irons VS R9 Max Irons VS R9 Forged irons

1: Technology
TaylorMade R9 Irons
TaylorMade's Inverted Cone Technology was developed to expand the COR zone of TaylorMade drivers.
The inverted Cone is CNC-milled directly into the back side of the clubsface resulting in a drastic variation in face thickness.
Originally developed for TaylorMade drivers, Inverted Cone Technology has been successfully incorporated into TaylorMade iron such as the r7, r7 tp and Burner.

R9 Max Irons
Distance and Control-Enhancing Technologies in a Classic Shape
TaylorMade has introduced the R9™ MAX iron, designed to deliver modern performance and tremendous distance in a more classic package. Like the Burner® irons, the Taylormade R9 MAX long-irons and middle-irons were designed separately from the short-irons to optimize performance in each club. The result is that the 3-iron through 6-iron are extremely long and easy to hit, and the short-irons are engineered to promote great feel, control and accuracy.
Velocity-Control Chamber in the Long- and Middle-irons
Each R9 MAX long-iron and middle-iron (3- through 6-) houses a large and fully enclosed compartment positioned behind the clubface, underneath the cavity badge. Called the Velocity-Control Chamber (VCC), it makes it possible for an immense area of the ultra-thin (2.0 mm) clubface to exist unsupported.

R9 Forged Irons
The target player for the standard Taylormade R9 Forged irons model is mid- low handicap golfer while at the same time Tour Pro's in Japan do intend to put this set into use. Several JLPGA women will be putting it into play within the next few events in Japan.

3: Reviews
TaylorMade R9 Irons Reviews
The R9s performed above or beyond all my expectations. They are an oversized club that has feel. The long irons absolutely murder the golf ball and despite the slight drop in forgiveness over the r7 irons that came before, they are still quite forgiving. Moreover, the irons actually look good. If you are a mid- to high-handicap player, this is a set of clubs I would highly recommend.
TaylorMade R9 Max Irons Reviews
The R9 Max is a forgiving distance iron. R9 Max Irons' lightweight and easy to swing, its not overly large but the top line is a bit too thick for my liking. If however you do not care how thick the top line is and you are a higher handicapper needing a forgiving easy launch Taylormade iron then the R9 Max is a good choice.

The R9 Forged TP was designed with the help of Nick Faldo and other top Japanese golf pro's. R9 Forged Irons are supposed to become Taylormades flagship professional use iron on the JPGA tour.

I purchased these to have something more forgiving since I was playing Ping I3 blades. Since I don't play as often I decided to buy something that would dampen mishit. I have a personal driving range and I found that my swing fault followed me, go figure :) Anyway, my 1st round was a disaster, but it wasn't the clubs. After the disaster I practiced all week with them, along with a major revision in my setup and shot 73 in my second round with them. So, they were redeemed. One thing I've noticed is that the offset is hidden well in the design of the club. I have never cared for offset, but it's almost invisible in this club. They feel really good in my hands and the thicker sole from the Ping's now seem normal.
