One thing about Ping is that the company depends on its quality to drive its business. There isn’t much advertising or hype associated with the brand, so any Ping G15 driver review is naturally going to focus solely on how well it performs rather than any cool new promotional campaign. The G15s are not cheap golf clubs but worth the money.

Elin Nordegren Has Achieved To Manage A PR Crisis With Flair And Brilliance

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Throughout nine months of dignified silence, Elin Nordegren has achieved what her ex-husband and his legion of advisers failed to do: manage a PR crisis with flair and brilliance.

This week she broke her long silence to tell People magazine that her husband’s multiple affairs had put her “through hell” and that she was “blindsided” by the scale of Woods’ infidelities.

In her first — and final — interview on the subject, Nordegren said that she tried for months to work out her relationship but concluded that a marriage ‘without trust or love’ could not be saved.

The 30-year-old adamantly denied that she hit her husband with a golf club on the night of his car accident and said that she suffered insomnia, weight loss and hair loss in the months after the revelations. Keeping her emotions in check for her young children, Sam (3) and Charlie (18 months), Nordegren said she only cried when alone in her room at night. She also said that she stayed strong by writing in her diary and undertaking intensive counselling.

A student of psychology, Nordegren has managed to continue her night classes and is now just 40 credits shy of her Bachelors degree. She hopes to one day counsel the children of broken families.

Although the couple has refused to discuss the terms of their divorce settlement, Nordegren is believed to have walked away with a lump sum in excess of $100m.

The money makes things “easier” said Nordegren, but still doesn’t alleviate the pain of losing her husband. “Money can’t buy you happiness,” she said.

Despite having recently bought a $2m waterfront estate in her native Sweden, Nordegren — who shares custody with Woods — says she plans to raise her children in South Florida, near their father.

But despite the countless hours spent on the green supporting her husband, Nordegren says that there has been one dramatic change to her life since that fateful November night: “I’ve not watched one minute of golf,” she said.

Obama Hashed Out Economic Recovery Plans With New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

President Obama hashed out economic recovery plans with New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg before teeing off yesterday at the oh-so-posh Vineyard Golf Club .

“The president and Mayor Bloomberg took the opportunity to discuss plans for short- and long-term economic growth at a pivotal point in our recovery,” said White House spokesguy Reid Cherlin .

And what a perfect place to have that convo!

The private club, which appears to be recovering nicely from the economic downturn, costs $350,000 to join and has annual dues of $12,000. However, we hear the one-time membership fee used to be $500,000 before the recession hit and all the billionaires ran for the bunker!

It didn’t appear the prez and Bloomie, whom Obama invited to play over a week ago, made much economic headway before hitting the fairway with D.C. lawyer Vernon Jordan and national trip director Marvin Nicholson.

Earlier in the day, the first family hit the bike path in the Manuel F. Correllus State Forest, riding six miles on colorful cruising bikes and all wearing helmets.

Last year, you may remember, the Leader of the Free World came under fire by many bike safety groups when photos surfaced of Obama riding helmet-less along Lobsterville Beach in Aquinnah.

He’s learned the hard way that sometimes a politician just has to set an example and wear the dorky hat (or at least a tricked-out Specialized brand white, blue and black helmet)!

The prez, who accessorized his helmet with black jeans, white polo shirt and running shoes, cycled on a blue bike with oldest daughter, Malia, on the State Forest Loop.

First lady Michelle Obama, dressed in a gray tank top and khaki peddle pushers, worked up a sweat on her yellow bike riding with younger daughter, Sasha .

The littlest Obama Girl, on her orange bike, was her animated self, laughing and enjoying family time outside of their rented chi-chi Chilmark compound.

The first couple are expected to flee the island on Sunday at 10 a.m. to fly down to New Orleans to mark the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

Last night, Barack and Michelle Obama dined at the quaint Beach Plum Inn overlooking Menemsha Harbor with a group of close friends including senior advisor Valerie Jarrett and Windy City attorney Alan S. King and his wife, Sophia.

BTW, the fine dining eatery is located in Chilmark, a dry town. So you think the prez BYOB’ed?

Tiger Woods Was Poised To Take Control At The Barclays On Friday

Saturday, August 28th, 2010

Tiger Woods was poised to take control at the Barclays on Friday. Instead, he went the other way.

Woods missed a 20-inch putt for one of his four bogeys over the last eight holes and shot a 2-over-par 73 in Paramus, N.J. The difference from the rest of the year is this only cost him the lead, not a chance of winning.

Jason Day, the 22-year-old Australian who won his first PGA Tour event earlier this year, made three straight birdies late in his round and finished with a good par for a 4-under 67 that gave him a one-shot lead.

Day is at 8-under 134, one shot ahead of Kevin Streelman (63) and Vaughn Taylor (70).

Streelman ran off six birdies in a seven-hole stretch to make the final group Saturday.

Stewart Cink carded a 69 that put him in a group at 136, while the pack another shot behind included Adam Scott (71) and three-time major champion Padraig Harrington, who had a 68.

Woods, four shots back at 138, at least will keep his No. 1 ranking for another week. Phil Mickelson missed the cut, then left through a side door without speaking to reporters. . . .

In Winnipeg, Manitoba, Michelle Wie shot a round of 3-under 69 for a three-stroke lead after two rounds of the CN Canadian Women’s Open.

She is at 10-under 134 after opening the tournament with a 65 that included a hole-in-one. Wie’s only career victory came last November at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational.

Jiyai Shin shot a 67 and is in second at 7 under 137. Morgan Pressel shot a 66 and is tied for third at 6 under 138 with defending champion Suzann Pettersen, who carded a second consecutive 69.

The owner of Pimlico Race Course says it will offer $5.5 million in shared bonuses to the winning owner and trainer at the 2011 Preakness Stakes.

President Barack Obama Took To The Links Again

Friday, August 27th, 2010

The sun came out yesterday and President Barack Obama took to the links again, this time heading to Farm Neck Golf Club, a public 18-hole course where he played last year.

Obama teed off around 1:30 p.m. and was accompanied by friends Cyrus Walker and Eric Whitaker, and White House trip director Marvin Nicholson, according to White House pool reports.

Obama wore a navy shirt, khaki pants and a baseball cap for the match.

As the press pool stood about 175 yards from the first green, Nicholson sank a putt and got a fist-bump from Obama. “That was the only real action,” the report said.

As the president walked from hole to hole, about two dozen well-wishers gathered along County Road to peer at him through the trees.

“It’s a prime spot,” said Rachel Araujo, who brought her three children — Dylan, Diamond and Delmont — and some of their cousins to the end of the road to see Obama. The family waved, took pictures and cheered as he passed by.

The Araujos were driving home when they saw the motorcade pass by and decided to see whether they could catch a glimpse of the president, Rachel Araujo said.

“You just have to continuously wave and hope he sees our support,” she said.

At about 5 p.m., around 10 others gathered at the club’s exit to wish him off. One young boy in a tie-dyed T-shirt held a sign reading “Hi President Obama!”

Delmont Araujo, 16, said his high school class studied American history last year, so seeing Obama on the golf course even briefly was exciting.

This is the fourth vacation day Obama has spent his afternoon playing golf. He golfed twice at the Vineyard Golf Club and late Wednesday at the nine-hole Mink Meadows Golf Club in Vineyard Haven.

No information was available on how first lady Michelle or daughters Sasha and Malia spent yesterday. The White House reported at 6:45 p.m. that the family was in for the night at Blue Heron Farm.
