Canada is heading into the men’s world amateur team golf championship with plenty of optimism.
Golf Canada’s director of high performance and non-playing team captain for the event, Doug Roxburgh, expects the three-member Canadian team to put in a solid performance at the event, which is held every two years.
Roxburgh can speak from experience, having represented Canada seven times at the world showdown.
“This is undoubtedly a team deep in talent and determination,” said Roxburgh, who is a four-time Canadian amateur champion and a member of the Canadian Golf Hall of Fame.

Representing the Canadian team in search of the Eisenhower Trophy is Eugene Wong of North Vancouver, B.C., Cam Burke of New Hamburg, Ont., and Albin Choi of Toronto.
Each two- or three-member team plays 18 holes of stroke play over the span of four days, beginning Thursday and wrapping up on Sunday. The two lowest scores from each team are combined each of the four days to determine the team’s overall score for the championship, which is being held at the Olivos Golf Club and Buenos Aires Golf Club.
Canada won the 1986 championship and has 11 top-five finishes in the event.
Canada’s women’s team finished seventh last week in Buenos Aires at the world women’s amateur team golf championship.
