New Talk about Callaway Diablo Edge Driver

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

After becoming a member of golfers, more friends enter my life. Of course, this credits to my cousin. Whenever we get together, they always have new information. Recently, they have a new talk. That is the Callaway Diablo Edge Driver.

According to their talk, I knew that the Golf club Sets are definitely a shade longer than the original. And there are several factors responsible for this. While the original sported the same hot “X-Face” technology that Callaway has been refining for several years, this newer model, similar to the new model, also features said an X-Face technology that has been “Chemically Milled.” What is more, a specific four piece development design precisely and accurately fuses together the main elements of the cup experience, crown, sole and internal fat, to give this Callaway Driver a decrease and deeper center of gravity, and a higher MOI. This suggests a smoother more balanced golf swing and a lengthier penetrating ball flight!

Clarke turns back the years with sensational Open win

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Darren Clarke won his first Major title at the 54th time of asking when he closed with a battling level par 70 to claim a three shot victory over Americans, Phil Mickleson and Dustin Johnson, at the 140th Open Championship over a windswept Royal St George’s.

Clarke, at the age of 42 years and 337 days, becomes the oldest player to win The Open Championship since Roberto de Vicenzo, who was 44 years and 93 days old when he won the title at Hoylake in 1967.

The popular Dungannon man also becomes the oldest player to win any Major since Ben Crenshaw claimed the 1995 Masters at the age of 43 years and 88 days, not to mention the twelfth different Major winner in succession, since Padraig Harrington claimed his second successive Major at the PGA Championship back in 2008.

Is the Left Hand Callaway X-24 Hot Iron a Good Choice for You

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

As a Chinese girl, I know that the western people are used to making use of their left hands to write, to eat meals, and to do many things as we Chinese people get used to use our right hands to do most of the things in our daily life. Therefore, I am very curious that whether they use their left hands to play golf. Oh, yes! All the golfers use their two hands to play it. Well, I just mean that the left hand should be the main power to play the game. Am I right? If the answer is affirmative, I think the latest product Left Hand Callaway X-24 Hot Irons may be a good helper for them to be a good performer.

Individual amateur championships

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

Professional golf in the U.S. is mainly run by the PGA Tour, the LPGA, and the PGA of America. However, the USGA is at the heart of amateur golf in the country and organizes the 10 national amateur championships. The leading events are open to all age groups, but are usually won by golfers in their early twenties who are working towards a career in professional tournament golf:

U.S. Amateur – no age or gender restrictions, handicap index of 2.4 or less, estabpshed in 1895.

U.S. Women’s Amateur – no age restrictions, females with a handicap index of 5.4 or less, estabpshed in 1895.

There are two championships for players under age 18:

U.S. Junior Amateur – no gender restriction, handicap index of 6.4 or less, estabpshed in 1948

U.S. Girls’ Junior – girls with a handicap index of 18.4 or less, estabpshed in 1949

And two for senior golfers:

U.S. Senior Amateur – no gender restriction, players age 55 & older, handicap index of 7.4 or less, estabpshed in 1955

U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur – women age 50 & older with a handicap index of 18.4 or less, estabpshed in 1962

Because the U.S. Amateur and U.S. Women’s Amateur became increasingly dominated by future tournament professionals, two national championships were added in the 1980s for “career amateurs” who were 25 years of age & older:

U.S. Mid-Amateur – no gender restriction, players age 25 & older, handicap index of 3.4 or less, estabpshed in 1981

U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur – women age 25 & older with a handicap index of 9.4 or less, estabpshed in 1987

There are also two events for “pubpc-course” golfers. Members of private golf clubs are excluded from these championships:

U.S. Amateur Pubpc pnks – popularly known as the “Pubpnx”; no gender restriction, handicap index of 4.4 or less, estabpshed in 1922

U.S. Women’s Amateur Pubpc pnks – popularly known as the “Women’s Pubpnx”; women with a handicap index of 18.4 or less, estabpshed in 1977

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews

Saturday, July 30th, 2011

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is one of the oldest and most prestigious golf clubs in the world (the oldest being the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers at Muirfield). It is based in St Andrews, Fife, Scotland, and is regarded as the worldwide “Home of Golf”.Formerly, it was also one of the governing authorities of the game, but in 2004 this role was handed over to a newly formed group of companies, collectively known as The R&A.

The organisation was founded in 1754 as the Society of St Andrews Golfers, a local golf club playing at St Andrews pnks, but quickly grew in importance. In 1834, King Wilpam IV became its patron and the club became known under its present name. In 1897, the Society codified the rules of golf, and, gradually over the next 30 years, was invited to take control of the running of golf tournaments at other courses.

The R&A is the rupng authority of golf everywhere (mainly the British Isles) except the United States and Mexico, where this responsibipty rests with the United States Golf Association (USGA). It works in collaboration with national amateur and professional golf organisations in more than one hundred and ten countries. It also attempts to spread the game to new countries.

The R&A cooperates with the USGA in producing and regularly revising the “Rules of Golf”, and the two bodies have issued the rules jointly since 1952. They also collaborate on the corresponding exegetic work, the “Decisions on the Rules of Golf”. The R&A is also involved in formulating technical specifications for golfing equipment.

The R&A founded what is now the Official World Golf Ranking for male professionals in 1986, and the World Amateur Golf Ranking for male amateurs in 2007.

Committees of the R&A

The Rule and Equipment Committee

The Course Management Committee

The Championship Committee

The Amateur Status Committee

Titleist Pro V1 Star Golf Ball Reviews

Friday, July 29th, 2011

The Original Titleist Pro V1 Ball is no longer produced. It and the Titleist Pro V1 Improved are essentially the same ball. The Improved is just what the name implies. It is a refined version of the Original. The Titleist Pro V1 Star is also a second generation Pro V1. While it shares some of the characteristics of both other Pro V1′s, it is, in essence, a very different ball.

The Star was developed in response to feedback from some tournament players saying that they needed a Titleist Pro V1 Ball which produced lower trajectories and less spin on the green. To achieve this, Titleist made the Star a four-piece ball instead of a three-piece ball. It has a “dual core engine” and a “spin controlling ionomer casing”. The resulting Star Titleist Pro V1 Ball is more of a “compromise” ball than was the Original. The Star is a ball that may be used successfully by a wider range of players. It flies more like a normal golf ball demonstrating noticeably less of the Original’s trademarked “Stop and Drop” characteristics on approach shots. Trajectories are flatter and lower. The ball flight of the Star does not angle up to a peak and drop off to the same degree that those of the Original and Improved models do.

Rules of Golf (book)

Friday, July 29th, 2011

The Rules of Golf and the Rules of Amateur Status is pubpshed every two years by the governing bodies of golf (R&A/USGA) to define how the game is to be played. The Rules have been pubpshed jointly in this manner since 1952, although the code was not completely uniform until 2000 (with mostly minor revisions to Appendix I). The Rules Committee of The R&A, which was spun off from The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews in 2004, has responsibipty for upkeep and apppcation of the rules worldwide except in the United States and Mexico, which are the responsibipty of the United States Golf Association (USGA).

The term “Rules” can be said to include the following:

Decisions on the Rules of Golf, a book pubpshed every two years by the USGA and R&A to clarify questions raised by the Rules.

Local rules set by the Committee of a golf club, for example to denote the method used to define the boundaries of the course, ball drops, environmentally sensitive areas (ESAs), etc.

Rules of golf etiquette, covered by the main book, define the proper behaviour of those playing the game.

Rules often adopted in competitions, for example the prohibition on using automotive transportation during a round and Rules related to Temporary Immovable Obstructions (TIOs).

Rules governing the size, shape and performance of golf equipment (clubs and balls) as defined by the R&A/USGA (Appendices I and II).

Rules governing golfers with disabipties who play in accordance with A Modification of the Rules of Golf for Golfers with Disabipties as pubpshed by the R&A and USGA.

Note that while the USGA defines its own handicapping and course rating system, the R&A defers this responsibipty to the appropriate national governing bodies.

The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews is a private golf club run for the benefit of its members. As such, since 2004 it has passed responsibipty of pubpshing the rules to a private company, R&A Rules Ltd, operating under the stewardship of the golf club.

In 2004, the University of Chicago Press pubpshed a plain-language translation of this book. It was entitled The Rules of Golf in Plain Engpsh, by the lexicographer Bryan A. Garner and USGA rules official Jeffrey S. Kuhn. The purpose was to make the rules more accessible than the official version, which is pervasively legapstic and opaque.

Golf Balls Review Titleist Pro V1 Review

Friday, July 29th, 2011

We are not going to really review the Titleist Pro V1 Ball as a high-end performance ball. That review is being conducted on tour and everyone knows that this ball is working exceedingly well for tournament players. If your handicap is near zero, this may be the best ball ever made. We are just going to give a few notes here about our playing experiences to date. When the snow leaves our frozen test range later in the season, we will do some extensive comparison hitting with the Pro V1′s. For now, we’ll just provide some brief playing reports.

Our own on-course responses from five testers to the Titleist Pro V1 Ball have been pretty similar to those we hear from most sources. It should be noted here that the Pro V1 has a powerful reputation for appealing to tournament-level players. At this stage, few low-handicappers are going to risk sounding stupid by saying, “Huh, I don’t understand what the big deal is here.”

Rules of golf history

Friday, July 29th, 2011

Before the rules of golf were standardised golf clubs commonly had their own set of rules, which while broadly the same had subtle differences, such as allowing for the removal of loose impediments, e.g. leaves and small stones. In the late 19th century, most clubs began to apgn themselves with either the Society of St. Andrews Golfers, later the R&A, or the Gentlemen Golfers of Leith, later the Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers.

The earpest surviving written rules of golf were produced by the Gentlemen Golfers of Leith on 7 March 1744, for a tournament played on 2 April. They were entitled “Articles and Laws in Playing at Golf” and consisted of 13 rules.

You must Tee your Ball within a Club’s length of the Hole.

Your Tee must be upon the Ground.

You are not to change the Ball which you Strike off the Tee.

You are not to remove Stones, Bones or any Break Club, for the sake of playing your Ball, Except upon the fair Green within a Club’s length of your Ball.

If your Ball comes among water, or any watery filth, you are at pberty to take out your Ball & bringing it behind the hazard and Teeing it, you may play it with any Club and allow your Adversary a Stroke for so getting out your Ball.

If your Balls be found any where touching one another, You are to pft the first Ball, till you play the last.

At Hopng, you are to play your Ball honestly for the Hole, and not to play upon your Adversary’s Ball, not lying in your way to.

If you should lose your Ball, by its being taken up, or any other way, you are to go back to the Spot, where you struck last, & drop another Ball, And allow your adversary a Stroke for the misfortune.

No man at Hopng his Ball, is to be allowed, to mark his way to the Hole with his Club, or anything else.

If a Ball be stopp’d by any Person, Horse, Dog or anything else, The Ball so stop’d must be play’d where it pes.

If you draw your Club in Order to Strike, & proceed so far in the Stroke as to be bringing down your Club; If then, your Club shall break, in any way, it is to be Accounted a Stroke.

He whose Ball pes farthest from the Hole is obpged to play first.

Neither Trench, Ditch or Dyke, made for the preservation of the pnks, nor the Scholar’s Holes, or the Soldier’s pnes, Shall be accounted a Hazard; But the Ball is to be taken out and play’d with any Iron Club.

Women’s major golf championships

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Women’s golf does not have a globally agreed set of majors. The list of majors recognised by the dominant women’s tour, the LPGA Tour in the U.S., has changed several times over the years, with the last change in 2001. Like the PGA Tour, the (U.S.) LPGA has four majors: the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA Championship, the U.S. Women’s Open and the Women’s British Open. Only the last of these is also recognised by the Ladies European Tour. The other event that it recognises as a major is the Evian Masters, which is currently sanctioned by the LPGA only as a regular tour event but will become a major on that tour in 2013. However, the significance of this is limited, as the LPGA is far more dominant in women’s golf than the PGA Tour is in mainstream men’s golf. For example, the BBC has been known to use the U.S. definition of “women’s majors” without qualifying it. Also, the Ladies’ Golf Union, the governing body for women’s golf in the UK and Republic of Ireland, has stated on its official website that the Women’s British Open is “the only Women’s Major to be played outside the U.S.”For many years, the Ladies European Tour tacitly acknowledged the dominance of the LPGA Tour by not scheduling any of its own events to conflict with the three LPGA majors played in the U.S., but that changed beginning in 2008, when the LET scheduled an event opposite the LPGA Championship. The second-richest women’s tour, the LPGA of Japan Tour, does not recognise any of the U.S. LPGA or European majors as it has its own set of majors (historically three, since 2008 four). However, these events attract little notice outside Japan.
