A northwest Austin golf course is struggling to survive. This summer’s record heat, combined with record water bills, is leaving the Balcones Country Club in need of new members.

“I call it the perfect storm,” said Phil Stika, Balcones Country Club general manager. “We really only had enough water to water one golf course completely. We saw it was in the best interest and have one well-kept golf course rather than two that were in poor condition.”

The club had to suspend play at its Spicewood course, one of two 18-hole courses on the property. Stika said they need around 350 new memberships. That would raise revenue from monthly dues from between $125,000 and $130,000 to $195,000.

There are three levels of memberships, from social to golf. They range from $100 to $266 a month.

El Paseo, with its upscale shops and art galleries, was taken over Sunday by people with orange hair, big red noses and makeshift circus tents as the 47th annual Golf Cart Parade drew a record crowd to the street.

For Olga Banks and her family, the spectacle was all a part of what has become an annual tradition.

“We come straight from church every year,” she said.

The family sat comfortably in chairs they set up on the El Paseo median, waiting patiently for the parade and its record 90 entries to get underway.

Two-time major champion Angel Cabrera will be among the headliners in the 48- player field. It was after this event last year that Tiger Woods lost the top spot in the world rankings. With his little play, and poor results over the last two years, Woods has now tumbled to 55th in the world.

Last year’s event was the first PGA Tour-sanctioned event in Southeast Asia.

The next unofficial stop for the PGA Tour will be next week in China, where Francesco Molinari is expected to defend his title at the WGC – HSBC Champions.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The PGA Tour player of the year race isn’t over yet.

The tour decided Monday to wait two weeks before sending ballots to the players because of the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, a World Golf Championship event Nov. 3-6 that counts as official if a PGA Tour member wins it.

The plan was for the ballots to go out Tuesday until tour officials realized a change in the schedule. A year ago, the HSBC Champions was played the week before the season-ending event at Disney. This is a non-Ryder Cup year, so the WGC event is two weeks after.

“It’s important because it’s an official win for a member, and that should hold the ballot open,” said Andy Pazder, the tour’s chief of operations. “When we send out the ballot, we have a brief summary of the player’s year on the PGA Tour. recommend directory: Tourstage Bridgestone ViQ Driver. (Reuters) – Former European number one Robert Karlsson will continue to divide his time between golf’s two main tours next season, the Swede said.

The 42-year-old made his debut as a full-time competitor on the U.S. PGA Tour this year after relocating his family from their Monte Carlo home to a property he bought in Charlotte, North Carolina. Karlsson, though, has also made several appearances on the European circuit this season and is planning to switch back and forth again in 2012.

“I will play (in the U.S.) next year,” the former Ryder Cup player told Reuters in an interview in Dubai. “The goal is to maintain a nice playing status in Europe as well. “The prize money is a bit bigger (in the U.S.) but if you are going to win a tournament over there or in Europe you have to play just as good golf.” Karlsson said he was looking forward to returning to the United Arab Emirates in December for the European Tour’s season-ending Dubai World Championship, a tournament he won in 2010. “I don’t look at it as trying to defend my title, I see it as a separate event,” said the 2008 European number one. “It will be difficult. “I was lucky enough to win last year and it’s always great to come back to a place where you have won before.”

We are not going to really review the Titleist Pro V1 Ball as a high-end performance ball. That review is being conducted on tour and everyone knows that this ball is working exceedingly well for tournament players. If your handicap is near zero, this may be the best ball ever made. We are just going to give a few notes here about our playing experiences to date. Women’s golf does not have a globally agreed set of majors. The list of majors recognised by the dominant women’s tour, the LPGA Tour in the U.S., has changed several times over the years, with the last change in 2001. Like the PGA Tour, the (U.S.) LPGA has four majors: the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the LPGA Championship, the U.S. Women’s Open and the Women’s British Open. Also, the Ladies’ Golf Union, the governing body for women’s golf in the UK and Republic of Ireland, has stated on its official website that the Women’s British Open is “the only Women’s Major to be played outside the U.S.”For many years, the Ladies European Tour tacitly acknowledged the dominance of the LPGA Tour by not scheduling any of its own events to conflict with the three LPGA majors played in the U.S., but that changed beginning in 2008, when the LET scheduled an event opposite the LPGA Championship. A hole is classified by its par, meaning the number of strokes a skilled golfer should require to complete play of the hole.For example, a skilled golfer expects to reach the green on a par-4 hole in two strokes: one from the tee (the ‘drive’) and another, second, stroke to the green (the ‘approach’); and then roll the ball into the hole in two putts for par. The key factor for classifying the par of a hole is the distance from the tee to the green. A typical par-3 hole is less than 250 yards (225 m) in length, with a par-4 hole ranging between 251 and 475 yards (225–434 m), and a par-5 hole being longer than 475 yards (435 m). The rare par-6s can stretch well over 650 yards (595 m).

The gradient of the hole can also affect its par. If the tee-to-green distance on a hole is predominantly downhill, it will play shorter than its physical length and may be given a lower par; the opposite is true for uphill holes. Par ratings are also affected by factors such as the placement of hazards or the shape of the green, which can affect the play of a hole by requiring an extra stroke to avoid playing into hazards.

Eighteen-hole courses may typically comprise four par-3, ten par-4, and four par-5 holes, though other combinations exist and are not less worthy than courses of par-72. Many major championships are contested on courses playing to a par of 70, 71, or 72. Understanding the golf stroke is easier if one first understands the golfer’s role. The golfer does not “hit the ball”. The golfer’s role is to swing the club, which then strikes the ball.

Your initial golf shot is your most important golf shot in my estimation. It’s sort of like first down in football. If you’re second down and twenty every time you get the ball you’re going to have a long afternoon. I’m used to it, being a Dolphin fan.

If you’re having trouble during a round of golf with hitting your golf driver in the fairway then drop down to your three wood immediately. Maybe after some success with your three wood you will gain your confidence back to try your driver again. The little bit of distance you’ll loose by hitting your three wood will be more than compensated by being on the short grass in the fairway. Work out any problems with your driver in practice not on the golf course.

The first thing you need to understand about a Driver is that the length is probably doing you the most harm. A golf swing is very similar to a group of skaters turning in a circle or a group of soldiers marching in a circle. The outside skater or individuals will have to move that much faster than the rest of the line to keep up. Sure the longer the driver the faster the club head will travel in theory, but eqaully the harder it will be to square the club face at impact thus causing that dreaded slice off the fairway.

To square the golf club up at impact, (impact is actually about three degrees closed with a driver) you need to start rolling your forearms over earlier. Why, because the golf club head is further away from you. If you’re having trouble squaring up the club face first try choking up a little on the golf club. My opinion is golf club manufacturers make the modern drivers too long anyway. Most are about 45 to 46 inches. I prefer 44 inches. Tiger Woods only hits a 43 ½ inch driver.

I also prefer the smaller club heads. Everyone is raving about the hybrid woods that are replacing three irons. Golfers rave about how easy the hybrids are to hit. The heads are SMALL and have a low center of gravity. In contrast the new Drivers have a head the size of a basketball and golfers wonder why they can’t square it up. I recommend the 395cc head as the largest acceptable size, not the 460cc style which is actually more difficult to square up at impact.

Some golfers try to keep their head still or over the top of the golf ball. To make a full turn on a swing with your driver your head might move a little towards your back foot. That’s fine if not desired. You need to be well behind the golf ball at impact. One should have a straight line from the front shoulder to the ball at impact.

Another thing I noticed is that most golfers tend to hit their driver out on the toe. Use some face tape on your driver and witness for yourself where you are making contact with the face of your driver. Usually the best place to make contact is high on the face and just a little inside of center. Different drivers have difference centers of gravity.
