the Mines Resort and Golf Club has been lengthened for the Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia

Wednesday, October 27th, 2010

THE US PGA Tour players are notoriously long hitters and the course at the Mines Resort and Golf Club has been lengthened in order to make it as challenging as it can be for the Asia Pacific Classic Malaysia.

Lengthening of the course was required to accommodate the requirements of the PGA Tour and Asian Tour. The full course measurement now stands at 6,370m from 6,191m previously.

Holes 4, 10, 13 and 18 have been lengthened for a more competitive albeit picturesque setting for the tournament.

Another important transformation has also been done to the practice area with the construction of a new short game facility.

There is now a new 10,000 sq feet putting green along with a chipping green and practice bunker to meet the players’ demands during the tournament.

The driving range has also been given a new facelift with the addition of extended hitting bays and a new turf.

A new fleet of buggies totalling 100 units have been acquired for the tournament.

“I am very pleased with the changes that have been introduced by the PGA Tour to our course layout as it is now more competitive,” said Tan Sri Lee Kim Yew, the founder of The Mines.

“It will be very interesting for both the players and spectators. We have had extensions made to several tees in line with the PGA Tour standards and to top it off, we have made refurbishments to the clubhouse for the players and visitors alike to truly experience a PGA Tour event.

“It is incredible that after hosting the World Cup in 1999, we can once again be proud of our country being in the same league as other great golfing nations.”

Adam Scott Will Return To The US PGA Tour

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Adam Scott will return to the scene of his maiden – and arguably most impressive – US PGA Tour triumph feeling in the best ball-striking form of his career.

As the world’s leading golfers chase a $US10 million pot of gold in the end-of-season playoffs, Scott will tee off in this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship at Boston TPC confident of improving his already healthy position in the FedEx Cup standings.

Scott’s ninth-place finish at the Barclays in New Jersey on Sunday advanced the 30-year-old from 32nd to 19th in the standings, with the top 70 players to progress from Boston to the penultimate event at Cog Hill from September 9-12.

If not for three costly three putts on what he described as “crusty and hard” greens at the Ridgewood Country Club, Australia’s former world No.3 would have been in an even more threatening position.

As it is, Scott could barely contain his excitement at what he hopes lay ahead.

“I’m playing some amazing golf,” Scott told AAP after his final round at the Barclays.

“There were points of frustration on the greens, but the putting’s better. It’s improving.

“I felt it at the PGA starting to get better. I had a good attitude this week and it all helps.”

Scott, once rated the best player yet to win a major before suffering a rankings freefall last year, said his iron play was “a little off” at times on Sunday.

“But, overall, it’s incredible. I’ve never hit quality shots like this before. It’s really fantastic,” he said.

“I’m right there.”

Dogged throughout his career by an uncooperative putter, Scott can finally see light at the end of the tunnel.

His caddie, Tony Navarro – former bagman for Greg Norman – told his boss he couldn’t possibly have finished worse than ninth at the Barclays, so good was Scott from tee to green.

“That’s not really a positive thing, but I’ve got to try and look at it as a positive and keep going,” Scott said.

“It’s a good time to start playing well at the moment. I’m close with the putter.

“It’s just very small margins at the moment. So I’m pleased with my golf.”

Scott’s buoyant mood will only improve when he steps onto Boston TPC, where a second-round course-record nine-under-par 62 propelled him to a four-stroke victory at the inaugural Deutsche Bank Championship in 2003.

His 20-under winning total remains the course record and Scott backed up that breakthrough success with a tie for second with Tiger Woods behind Vijay Singh in 2004.

He has not missed a cut in five appearances in Boston.

Scott is one of a dozen Australian golfers in the field hoping to make the top-70 qualifiers for the following week’s BMW Championship.

Jason Day, 14th in the FedEx Cup standings, Scott, Robert Allenby (24th), Stuart Appleby (36th) and Geoff Ogilvy (52nd) all seem safe, but Greg Chalmers (61st), John Senden (64th) and Michael Sim (66th) probably need to at least make the cut.

Matt Jones (70th) definitely needs to survive the halfway chop to have any chance, while Steve Elkington (89th) and Aaron Baddeley (93rd) need top-10 finishes to be certain of advancing.

The tournament commences on Friday and finishes a day later on Monday because of Labor Day in America.
