The Callaway Diablo Octane Black Tour driver features a new Forged Composite material in the crown (33% of the clubhead) that is lighter and stronger than titanium, allowing for a longer clubhead for additional clubhead speed, resulting in an amazing 8 more yards than the Diablo Edge driver. It also features Hyperbolic Face Technology, which precisely controls the face thickness, resulting in consistently higher ball speeds across the entire face for more distance, even on off-center hits. The Diablo Octane Black Tour driver is a limited edition that is only available in 9.5 degrees of loft and stiff flex.

Forged Composite
Forged Composite is the result of a unique partnership between the R&D teams of Callaway and supercar maker Lamborghini. Forged Composite is one-third the density of titanium, yet features a greater load carrying capacity per unit mass in bending. The Diablo Octane Black Tour crown contains 10 million turbostratic carbon fibers – 500,000 per square inch – set with six tons of force during the forging process to reinforce 33 percent of the clubhead. These ultra-light, thin-walled components result in lower total head weight and optimized mass properties that make the Diablo Octane Black Tour Driver lighter, faster, and stronger.

Hyperbolic Face Technology
Callaway uses Hyperbolic shaping and a unique chemical reduction process to strategically remove excess material from areas of the titanium face and achieve precision thickness control.   I purchased these to have something more forgiving since I was playing Ping I3 blades. Since I don't play as often I decided to buy something that would dampen mishit. I have a personal driving range and I found that my swing fault followed me, go figure :) Anyway, my 1st round was a disaster, but it wasn't the clubs. After the disaster I practiced all week with them, along with a major revision in my setup and shot 73 in my second round with them. So, they were redeemed. One thing I've noticed is that the offset is hidden well in the design of the club. I have never cared for offset, but it's almost invisible in this club. They feel really good in my hands and the thicker sole from the Ping's now seem normal.
